The festival premiers in Penang with Dance and Theatre in Stage 2, penangpac from the September 5 to 15, and begins in Kuala Lumpur in Pentas 2, klpac from the September 19 to the October 28.

It is the biggest competitive multi art form festival presenting Theatre, Dance and Musical in the country. The festival began in Malaysia in 2008 with Theatre; then expanded its categories with the addition of Dance in 2009, Musical in 2010 and for the first time ever Stand Up Comedy this year.
Short+Sweet Festival Malaysia aims at providing a professional platform for emerging, established stand-up comedians, composers, lyricists, musical directors, writers, directors, actors, choreographers and dancers to showcase their original ideas and talent; presenting their creative works under 10 minutes each in a collaborative and fun environment.
Festival Director and Executive Producer Dato’ Faridah Merican shares, “Now in its fifth year, Short+Sweet is not only accessible for KLites, but for those in the northern region as well. The festival is just fun, fun, fun, for the participants who have to sink their teeth into the development of their presentation, and the audiences who will be taken on a ride and amazed at the multitude of creativity surrounding us. This country is abundant with talent and passion, and this festival expresses just that”.
Short+Sweet Festival Malaysia is open to all walks of life and accepts creative submissions in all Malaysian languages. It is designed for anyone who has the desire to experience and delve into the creation of bite sized performances for stage. Workshops were held in April to create these 10 minute performances, facilitated by Alex Broun for Theatre, Llewellyn Marsh for Musical and Aida Reza for Dance.
Short+Sweet Festival Malaysia shortlisted performances are judged by key persons in the creative industries, with over 33 Awards to be given out to exceptional teams and individuals such as The Best Overall Performance, Best Glitz and Glamour, Best Actor Male and Female, Best Director, Best Choreographer, Best Script, Best Libretto and more. The rakyat also takes part in voting for their favourite with the “The People’s Choice Awards”. This year the prizes are even bigger and sweeter, made possible by supporters of the arts.
